Fertility Q&A

What can I do to support my fertility?

If you’re ready to have a baby, there are a few things you can do to help your body along the way. Learning about your ovulation cycle — and how to track it — will increase your odds of getting pregnant. Similarly, certain lifestyle changes like quitting smoking or losing weight can make it easier to conceive.

Dr. Olanescu can help you support your fertility. As an obstetrics expert who serves a diverse array of patients, she takes the time to understand your specific body. She can help you come up with a plan that makes it as easy as possible for you to get pregnant.

What happens if I struggle with infertility?

If you’re having trouble getting pregnant, don’t worry. The average, healthy 30-year-old woman only has about a 20% chance at getting pregnant each month, while the healthy 40-year-old’s monthly odds are around 5%. Even so, women of all ages get pregnant all the time. And that’s thanks, largely, to the wide variety of infertility treatments available today.

At Medical Care for Women, Dr. Olanescu starts by running all the relevant diagnostic tests. Pinpointing your fertility issue is the key to treating it, giving you the best chance at getting pregnant. Once she has a clearer understanding of the current state of your fertility, Dr. Olanescu works with you to develop a plan to help you conceive. That might include:

  • Medical treatment
  • Surgical treatment, including the reversal of tubal ligation
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

What is intrauterine insemination?

Intrauterine insemination, also known as IUI, is a fertility treatment in which Dr. Olanescu places the sperm directly in your uterus. This increases the number of sperm that reach your fallopian tubes, increasing your odds of conception. IUI is less invasive and less expensive than IVF.

IUI is ideal for people dealing with:

  • Low sperm count
  • Scar tissue in the cervix or an otherwise hostile cervix
  • Ejaculation dysfunction
  • Low sperm mobility
  • Unexplained infertility

Emotionally and financially preparing to have a baby is already a lot of work. The team at Medical Care for Women can make physically preparing your body easier. If you’d like to learn more about your fertility treatment options, call Medical Care for Women or schedule your appointment online.
